Grist, The Journal for Writers.

Grist is the writer's journal for the University of Tennessee, edited by the graduate students within the English department. David Czyz and I were asked to come aboard and re-design the journal from the ground up. We collaborated quite closely with editor Charlotte Pence, setting up a systematic design that could be used for subsequent issues. We went with the idea of a circular "sticker" logo and photographic background, which could be changed per issue. Each issue of the journal features poetry, fiction, essays, interviews and usually a special section -- this particular speciality being ten-minute plays. Both plays were compiled midway through, on a baby blue paper, set in courier to reference a manuscript, or a print-off from a rehearsal. At the top of the cover, there was also a pubic (or beard) hair added to each issue. Superimposed, of course.

Thank you to Jarred Elrod and Katie Ries for their banana peel and slice of pizza during the photo shoot.
